INAMED’s new concept of “optimized drug delivery into specific areas of the lung”
Gauting, August 14, 2008 – INAMED, an expert in inhalation medicine, has developed a new concept that will support the pharmaceutical industry in optimizing the application of drugs via the lungs. “Using standard inhalation techniques, only 10-30 % of the delivered drug amount deposits into the lungs,” says Dr. Thomas Meyer, CSO at INAMED. Higher efficacy and higher reproducibility are the two main advantages of INAMED’s new system. “Additionally,” says Meyer, it will possible to deliver drugs into defined regions of the lungs.” Because this will result in a significant reduction in the amount of drug needed for therapy, side effects will be markedly reduced.

International phase II trial in patients suffering from CF finished ahead of schedule
Gauting, April 21, 2008 – Owing to the typical hard work and dedication of its team of experts, INAMED finished an international phase II study in patients suffering from cystic fibrosis ahead of schedule. “Such a high number of patients in one study has certainly been a challenge, especially because half of them had to be children,” says Dr. Matthias Heil, CEO of INAMED Research GmbH & Co. KG. And even the coordination of sites in North America, Eastern and Western Europe, as well as the local regulatory requirements, didn’t slow down the INAMED team. “Despite the very complex logistics of the project we are proud to have finished far ahead of schedule and more than satisfied our customer,” Dr. Heil continued. “As a specialized ‘Respiratory CRO,’ we will continue to do everything in our power to meet these kinds of time and budgetary challenges.”

Dr. Thomas Meyer, Managing Director and co-founder added: “We have gained our experience from conducting more than hundred projects, and we will offer this experience to the pharmaceutical community.” INAMED's service portfolio includes inhalation consulting, in-vitro characterization of drugs and devices and, of course, the performance of clinical phase I - IV trials

Brand new Gamma-Camera for the Use in Clinical Lung Deposition Studies< P>
State-of-the-art has always been a matter for Inamed Research GmbH & Co.KG, that’s why they have just bought a brand new gamma-camera with the largest head available in the world. “This enables us to take a picture of a patient from head to stomach with just one shot,” says Dr. Thomas Meyer, CEO of INAMED Research. “Furthermore, due to this, we don’t need such high amounts of radioactivity and we achieve a much better image quality.”

Lung deposition studies - INAMED provides state-of-the-art clean room
As a prerequisite for the use of radioactively labeled aerosols in clinical lung deposition studies, INAMED provides a clean room with safety cabinet. Here, experienced experts prepare radioactively labeled respirable agents for MDIs, DPIs and nebulizers.
The special aspect of this clean room lies in its ability to meet the different demands of product protection and protection of the environment from radioactive release—overpressure for product protection and low-pressure for radiation protection. This contradiction was solved by a “box-in-box-system,” which contains an inner clean room with overpressure and an outer cabin with low-pressure.
This concept was approved by the competent authorities.

Inamed successfully completes deposition study in patients with lung transplant
Within short time, Inamed Research was able to include into a deposition study 12 patients with single or double lung transplant. In this exploratory phase I b study it could successfully be assessed, what amount of a new drug needs to be inhaled to achieve a relevant drug concentration in the lungs.
